Dr. Santhakumar is a St. Joseph Mercy Oakland vascular neurologist, Assistant Professor in the Wayne State University School of Medicine Department of Neurology and a member of the medical school’s Comprehensive Stroke Center since 2007. She is ABPN board certified in Neurology. Dr. Santhakumar earned her medical degree at the Indira Gandhi Medical College in Shimla, India. She completed her Neurology residency at the University of Kansas in 2005 and Vascular Neurology fellowship at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center in 2006. She is the university’s Neurology Clinic Medical Director since 2008 and a member of the Quality Subcommittee of the Wayne State University Physician Group Clinic Practice Committee.
She also serves on the Neurology Residency Committee and is actively involved in resident education. Dr. Santhakumar’s research and clinical interests are in cerebrovascular disease. She is involved in stroke research studies with the stroke program at Wayne State University. A a general neurologist, Dr. Santhakumar sees General Neurology and stroke patients in Neurology clinics at the University Health Center four days a week.
