Carotid Antioplasty & Stenting

Frequently a stent may be placed. The balloon catheter is removed and replaced with a catheter carrying a collapsed stent (Figure C). The purpose of the stent is to keep the plaque from expanding again. The catheter is removed leaving the cylindrical mesh stent in place opposite the plaque (Figure D).
